Hello everyone! Its a new month which means it’s time for a new goal. This month’s goal is all about meal planning.
Here’s a little back story on why I chose this goal. My husband and I love going out to eat. It’s so nice to go out, have a drink, and not have to deal with clean up.
But recently we’ve been checking out our monthly budget and have realized just how much we’re spending on eating out.
That means this month were going to try to eat at home more. Our goal is to cook at least 5 days a week (slightly panicking inside) and have a leftover night. This will be a HUGE adjustment. We pretty much eat out the whole weekend since we’re usually on the go.
To reach this goal I’ve made a menu for the month and a grocery list for each week. I have also planned back up meals. These will be quick meals for the nights when things pop up. Things that can be quickly thrown in a pot or the oven.
Here is our menu for April.
I’ve planned out breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the entire month. If I need a recipe for the meal I have added the link to it underneath.
Most of these meals are pinned on my Pinterest board, Feeding The Family. When I was making the menu I tried to follow this pattern.
As I mentioned earlier, I went ahead and made a grocery list for each week. I plan to go grocery shopping every Friday. On Thursdays I will add whatever other items we need to the list. I found a nice little template on Excel. It has all the different grocery sections already made up.
As for the quick meals I have purchased frozen pizzas, Luby’s fish, already made turkey burgers, Italian sausage, and pasta meals. These are all quick meals I know my family enjoys, well at least me and the husband. My kids would be be ecstatic with PB&J every night for the rest of their lives.
Well that’s it. I feel like this goal is going to be a huge challenge for me. I don’t mind cooking but by Wednesday I’m usually getting pretty sick of it. I’m hoping I can do this and see the benefit in the bank account.
I will be keeping you up to date on how I’m doing, as well as, sharing what recipes were hits and flops on Instagram. If your not following me yet, just click here and follow along on my meal planning journey.
